Please provide a surname AND at least one of the following: first name, affiliation, or topic.
ID LOOKUP finds the most likely Scopus Author ID for a researcher and automatically assigns a publication-based research discipline.
HOW IT WORKS
Enter the researcher’s surname (required) and at least one of first name, affiliation, or topic. ID LOOKUP runs multiple complementary searches against Scopus, progressively combining these fields to improve identification:
1) Surname + first name >>> searches for the researcher using the Scopus Author Search API
2) Surname + first name + affiliation >>> adds the researcher’s affiliation to improve identification
3) Surname + affiliation >>> searches using the surname and affiliation when no first name is available
4) Surname + first name + simplified affiliation >>> repeats the search using the first word of a multi-word affiliation to account for variations in how institutions are recorded in Scopus
5) Surname + simplified affiliation >>> the same affiliation-based search without the first name
6) Surname + first-name initial + affiliation + topic >>> uses the Scopus Search API to identify the researcher through their publication records
7) Surname + first-name initial + topic >>> uses the Scopus Search API when a topic is available but affiliation is not
In brief, the search uses both the Scopus Author Search API and Scopus Search API, including alternative searches with a simplified affiliation and first-name initial when appropriate. This helps account for differences in how researchers and institutions are recorded in Scopus.
Once a Scopus Author ID is identified, ID LOOKUP retrieves the researcher’s five most recent publications. The journals’ ASJC (All Science Journal Classification) categories are then analyzed, and the most frequently occurring category is reported as the researcher’s calculated discipline.
The Scopus ID is provided as a direct link to Scopus, allowing the result to be quickly verified.
